As a proud member of Green Circle Salons, World Hair Institute is committed to protecting the planet—one haircut at a time.
The beauty industry generates 877 pounds of waste every single minute. Hair clippings, leftover color, foils, and more, often end up in landfills or waterways. We knew we could do better—so we did.
By partnering with Green Circle Salons, up to 95% of our beauty waste is now recovered and repurposed.
Since 2009, Green Circle Salons and more than 16,000 “Waste Warriors”, have diverted over 12 million pounds of beauty waste from landfills and waterways—giving these materials a second life.
What Happens to Our Waste?
Through this program, our salon waste is transformed into innovative, planet-friendly solutions:
- Hair → Used in oil spill cleanup and to create a sustainable biocomposite plastic
- Hair color → Separated into clean water and clean energy that goes back into the local power grid
- Foils and color tubes → Cleaned and recycled into raw materials for commercial use, including bicycles!
