What happens to the old hair, chemicals, and foils we use everyday? Our garbage has a much longer journey than just landing in a trashcan.
In fact, the beauty industry creates 877 pounds of waste every single minute.
We wanted to do something about that. So we did.
World Hair Institute is proud to join Green Circle Salons as part of more than 2,500 members working to reduce waste in our industry.
Up to 95% of all its beauty waste is now being recovered and repurposed by Green Circle Salons.
Since 2009, Green Circle Salons and 16,000+ Waste Warriors have diverted 12,311,993 million lbs of waste from landfills and waterways!
Resources that were once considered waste materials such as hair, leftover hair color, foils, color tubes and aerosol cans are now being recycled.
Beauty waste is given a new life.
This is a certified sustainable salon, meaning that up to 95% of the beauty waste is recovered and repurposed!
Through this program we turn:
- Hair into hair booms for oil spill cleanup AND development of a sustainable biocomposite plastic bin
- Hair color into clean water + clean energy which is injected back into local power grids
- Foils and color tubes are cleaned and repurposed materials for commercial use such as bicycles
