Compassionate Hair Solutions for Hair-Pulling Disorder
If you struggle with Trichotillomania, you may have noticed bald spots forming on your scalp. Hair-pulling is difficult to control, and as more hair is lost, feelings of embarrassment or shame may grow—especially when others begin to ask questions.
At the World Hair Institute, we understand this deeply personal challenge. We’ve helped many clients who live with Trichotillomania daily. Our goal is to support you on your journey—both emotionally and cosmetically—with an individualized approach that helps you look and feel your best.
We offer a variety of hair replacement systems designed to diminish the appearance of bald spots. Each solution is tailored to match your hair’s natural texture, color, and style, so you can regain self-confidence while reducing focus on areas of hair loss.
What Is Trichotillomania?
Trichotillomania (pronounced trik-oh-till-oh-MAY-nee-uh), also known as hair-pulling disorder or simply Trich, is a neurological and psychological condition categorized as an impulse control disorder. It was first studied in the late 1800s and is now believed to be linked to chemical imbalances in the brain, often triggered by trauma, anxiety, or stress.
Those with Trich feel an uncontrollable urge to pull out their own hair, one strand at a time. While it most often affects the scalp, it can impact any area of the body that grows hair. Trichotillomania can begin as early as infancy, but the most common onset is during adolescence. The condition affects both genders but is more commonly reported among women.
Despite the emotional toll, you are not alone—approximately 5% of the U.S. population is affected by Trich. In fact, several well-known public figures have openly shared their experiences, including Olivia Munn, Megan Fox, Charlize Theron, Katy Perry, Victoria Beckham, and Justin Timberlake.
